5/27/2009 BloggingI find myself prefering to read others blogs than blog myself. (Beau sneaked in here and sat by my side) sidetracked by dogs
what was I saying? ... off to read
"found" a "new" author: Sheri Cobb South and am enjoying her writing style
Beau's hunting instincts kicked in when he spied a squirrel out in the front yard. Have you ever known of a dog whose tail curled up after he was neutered? That is what happened to my dog, Beau! 5/22/2009 MaggieOn the day that I woke up wanting to sing and cry, Maggie made her transition. Looking at a photo of her taken in 2005 and comparing to how she looked now, she was no longer the same. She had lost most of her stripes and spots. To the very end she remained feisty.. well, except now it was wobbly and she kept falling over. She would look at me as if to say "darn body why is it not cooperating!" I was reminded of my 88 year old neighbor who would question her doctor about why the medicines weren't working. She hated the reply that it was her age. She would say, "what has age got to do with it?!"
I miss my neighbor and her crabbiness. She went two weeks ago to live in a retirement community. She went kicking, but with her health deteriorating daily, it is best.
5/20/2009 singing and crying'I want to sing, I want to cry; I want to laugh, I want to die'
is there a song with those words ?
Some days I feel like singing and crying. Thought about death last night and woke up with death on my mind. Not my death.
Read my "Daily Word" and it was about affirming life.
Remember chatting with my father a couple of years ago about death. He remembered an old Western movie (I don't remember the title etc today) but it had an old Chief who said "today is a good day to die" and he climbed up to the funeral pyre (?), laid down, folded his arms on his chest and closed his eyes. Minutes or hours later, drops of rain start to fall. The Chief's eye blinks.
Yes, it would be good if death was such a transition. Just fall asleep and not wake up. No long, wasting illness. An illness that not only wastes away the soon to be deceased person's body, but also wears away those of his loved ones.
One can choose to euthanize or allow an animal to die "naturally". Even allowing such a "natural" death is painful and wearing. The other pets in the household sense better than the humans that one of theirs is leaving. For several days, they have been pushing away from the sick animal.
Over 25 years ago, the choice was mine and mine alone, and I chose to euthanize my cat whose kidneys failed suddenly. About ten years ago, an older cat's kidneys failed and I told the vet that I didn't want her to suffer. Today, the choice for this nearly 15 year old kitty is not mine alone to make. 5/16/2009 Rainin! It is raining!! yes, actually raining... great, big raindrops! While getting ready to wash the cars, I noticed the sky looked grey and was darkening and thought, "hope it rains after we finish washing the cars". Sure enough, we finished and came inside to get the doggies ready for their walk.
We walked as far as the next door neighbor's house and the big drops started falling. Pug Buddy, with his thick black coat, felt nothing and continued sniffing around the fire hydrant. Itsy bitsy Chihuahua started shivering like mad so back into her sling she went. Meanwhile, Papa and Beau had gone back inside. Probably because Papa didn't like getting wet.
yee ha!! Love walking in the rain! 5/11/2009 My SundayNice. Hubby fed the pets: 3 cats and 3 dogs; then he and I took off for the bay. It was nice to sip my coffee as I watched the sea without fussing with doggies. We walked and chatted and looked for dolphins. No dolphins to be seen.
Older son works nights so he was asleep but younger son cooked turkey sausage while we were at the bay. He then fixed us eggs and toast when we returned from our bay stroll.
I decided I would like to stroll through a garden center so off hubby and I go. Unfortunately the sun was a bit too hot for my wee head. I came home and put an herbal ice pack on my head. My sweet Beau wanted to help and he gave me lots of kisses then sat smack down on my chest! Beau weighs 45 or so pounds. I was laughing so hard and had a hard time dislodging him.
For lunch, younger son grilled some chicken which I served mine sliced over a salad. The guys (hubby and son) chose not to have any veggies with theirs.
Then, off to Petsmart with Beau in tow. I am pleased to say Beau did very well. He didn't bark at anyone or enthusiastically greet people. The cashier thought it was cute when Beau put his paws up on the counter. He offered him treats which Beau politely refused until papa gave them to him.
For dinner, older son made fettucini alfredo and homemade bread plus chocolate pudding. What? no salad or veggies? nope.. both sons take after their father. Although he likes collard greens and green beans and mashed potatoes and black-eyed peas.
My "daughter" Lena phoned and we had a lovely chat. My Brazilian "son" facebooked me.
I am one not to make a big deal of holidays. In fact, I would be perfectly happy to do absolutely nothing. I don't expect my sons to do anything special or give me gifts. I told them that next year, I would spend Mother's Day at a spa. 5/6/2009 Mother's DayGee golly gosh This coming Sunday is "Mother's Day". I thought it was NEXT weekend. Every day I am reminded I am the mother of two sons. They are both in their mid-20s and still live at home. In some cultures, children live at home until they marry as I was recently reminded by a fellow Latina. She would love to have her son at home she told me. Well, I must be missing that gene because I can hardly wait to have both sons living on their own. I do NOT eagerly wait for daughters-in-law or grandchildren either.
So, my older son is planning to fix me dinner on Sunday. Next Mother's Day, he reminded me, he will be living in another town. Depending on his work schedule, he may or may not be able to come. Will I be going to see him he asked. 5/4/2009 Doggie trainingLast doggie training class was today and I left it to my hubby and the trainer and Beau. Now, maybe my hubby can take over and walk Beau and I will walk Pug Buddy
It is hot and humid and both Pug Buddy and I cannot tolerate much of it! Both of us have black hair so we attract the heat !
While Beau and hubby were off with the trainer, I watered the plants in the back yard. Something that is a challenge with Beau around. He loves to water play! Guess I need to learn to be the "leader of the pack" and not allow him to play when I am watering plants.
